Missions
Martin and Amanda Clewis
Martin and Amanda Clewis are church-planting missionaries to the Dungan of Kyrgyzstan and are currently in the states for the birth of their son, Mason Richard Clewis, who was born on April 20th and joins big sister Kyla. They plan to return to Kyrgyzstan on June 2nd and will be in Tampa from May 5th - May 26th.
The Dungan are an ethnically Chinese people who left Russia in the late eighteenth century seeking religious and political freedom and a better life. They live primarily in the former Soviet Republics of Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan. Since leaving China, they've been a people without a homeland who have diligently sought to preserve their language, culture, and Islamic traditions. They tend to be more devout in following Islam than most other Central Asian peoples. However, their religious identity is still more a matter of cultural heritage than genuine spiritual sensitivity. They claim to follow the Qur-an, but many are unfamiliar with its teachings.
Please be in prayer for the Clewis' and the Dungan. For more information, check the Missions table and/or see Rick and Loraine Clewis.
